Shuryan to the Front at M-40

Three-time ShortTrackTrucks.com Challenge Series Champion, Joey Shuryan, drove a smart, patient and fast race Friday night to claim his first truck series victory in over a year. Traveling all the way from Mooresville, NC, to the fast and tight M-40 Speedway, Shuryan and reigning series champion Justin Claucherty put on a great race out front for the lead. Claucherty fell just short at the finish to claim second over Speed Pro Masters Division championship leader, John Smalley, in third.

Qualifying action saw Paul Schaffer grab the Renegade Racing Fuels Fast Qualifier award over Shuryan and Smalley. Heat race one was won by Shuryan over Darren Lane and Cluacherty. The second heat race grabbed the attention of the fans as John Culp raced hard to the front over Doug Vander Vliet and David Stone.

The main event started fast and furious as Claucherty jumped to the outside on Josh Leo and lead the first few laps. Schaffer would begin his charge to the front along with the hard racing pair of Lane and Rob Roney. But by lap fourteen both drivers would retire, Lane with a flat tire and Roney with powertrain woes.

Out front, Joey Shuryan had charged to the front and began hounding Claucherty for the lead. At the midway point, Shuryan nosed under Claucherty going into turn one. A lapped truck on the exit of turn two served as the perfect pick as Shuryan steamed by into the lead. From there, Claucherty could keep pace but couldn’t get alongside for another shot at the lead.

Paul Schaffer would provide plenty of action though as he rejoined the field in last from his flat tire repair and proceed to carve his way up through the pack and into fifth at the finish. It was Shuryan collecting the checkers first followed by Claucherty, Smalley, Keith Wioncek and Schaffer in fifth. Josh Leo drove well and stayed in the lead pack all race to finish sixth over Hall Electronics Rookie of the Race, Dave Parisian in seventh. John Culp, Allstar Performance Hard Charger Keera Allen, and David Stone rounded out the top ten. Doug Vander Vliet won the Engine Pro Lucky Dog award while Rob Roney scored the St. Clair Engine Hard Luck Award. John Smalley was the Speed Pro Master of the Race.
