Shuryan Styles to Championship with Win
at Mansfield Motorsports Speedway

Mansfield, OH: Joey Shuryan wrapped up the 2005 Championship for the ShortTrackTrucks.com Challenge Series in style by winning the final race of the year at Mansfield Motorsports Speedway. This was Shuryan's second straight points title with the trucks. Justin Claucherty, by virtue of a sixth place finish, won the Zander Radio Systems Rookie of the Year award for 2005. While the racing stretched late into the night, the on-track action sizzled with battles for position lasting throughout the event. Behind Shuryan, Rod Morrison finished second in the race over Joe Hill with Mike Putnam turning in another strong drive to claim fourth and top rookie of the race.

With Shuryan needing just to qualify to clinch his second consecutive
ShortTrackTrucks.com Challenge Series title, Keith Wioncek proved his speed besting Shuryan by just three hundredths of a second to claim the Turbo Blue Racing Gasoline Pole Award. Wionceks fast time set a new track record for the trucks at Mansfield Motorsports Speedway and put him in a position to challenge Bob Fruit for second in the season championship. Joe Hill wound up third with Rod Morrison and Paul Schaffer completing the top five.

On this Mansfield Cavalcade weekend, the hardy and enthusiastic crowd stayed late into the night to cheer the trucks in their final event of 2005. Pacing the field to the green was Kenny Clark and Alex Lewis with Clark jumping into the lead at the start. Clark paced the trucks for the first few laps with two and three-wide racing throughout the field until his Dodge Ram lost
a radiator hose sending the fast qualifier, Wioncek, into a spin in turn four. Local Mansfield late model ace, Kent Brewer, unable to stop on the water slickened track, slid sideways into Wioncek's Dodge. The contact sent Wioncek home early, ending his bid to finish second in the championship.
His misfortune netted him the StClairEngine.com hard luck award for the
race.

After the restart, Shuryan was on the move dispatching Lewis from second and pouncing on the hapless Clark who was destined to lose the lead and his engine. Joe Hill followed Shuryan into second, looking for a way into the
lead, testing the bottom until the caution came out again for Alex Lewis.
Lewis, a rookie who has been improving in every race, was fighting Rod Morrison for third place when the two made contact exiting turn four. The
contact sent Lewis into the front stretch wall ending his strong run.

On the restart, Shuryan found another gear and quickly put some distance
between he and IURL truck regular, Joe Hill. The battle would now be for
second as Morrison applied the pressure to Hill. Lap after lap Morrison
attempted the low move coming off of turn four but the traction was just not
there. Finally with eleven laps to go, Morrison got a run coming off of
turn two and pulled inside Hill entering three. The two veteran drivers
raced side-by-side through three and four with Morrison finally gaining the
advantage and claiming second spot.

From there the running order would remain the same with Shuryan out front,
followed by Morrison, Hill, and hard charging Zander Radio Systems rookie
contender, Mike Putnam, in fourth. A late race caution bunched the field
again and Morrison entertained the crowd managing to stay within a truck
length of Shuryan to the finish. But out front, Shuryan was too strong and
picked up the win. Morrison, in finishing second, jumped to third in the
Championship standings behind Fruit in second. Joe Hill finished the event
in third followed by Mike Putnam who claimed the Zander Radio Systems Top Rookie of the Race finishing fourth. Paul Shaffer finished fifth, followed
by Justin Claucherty, Gerard Ramos, John Newman, Bill Niedziewicki, and Bob Fruit
